
The newspaper article “Rote learning was a winner” describes recent educational research which investigated the effectiveness of Rote Learning as a teaching method.
They studied for three years and they monitoring how it progressed of 2000 teenagers. They selected 17 schools in north of England and tried to measure the influence of the “boredom factor”. In the university of Newcastle Rote learning is still alive and this teaching method did have effect. The university researchers did the research through awarding teachers marks and the methods now frowned upon actually improved.
So they thought that the best learning method is to mixed both two techniques to match the needs of pupils.
