culture shock I

Cultural shock, I researched in Wikipedia, “describe the anxiety and feelings (of surprise, disorientation, confusion, etc.) felt when people have to operate within an entirely different cultural or social environment, such as a foreign country. It grows out of the difficulties in assimilating the new culture, causing difficulty in knowing what is appropriate and what is not.”

For me personally, there were of course many cultural shocks that I came across one month ago when I set my foot on this country.

Here, I just want to say some things which I experienced, heard and saw.

First, I want to say that the most aspect I can not get used to is food in UK. The first week because I did not buy the pot I have to eat bread everyday. It was so terrible for me though I like eating bread when I was in my country. But one week continue to eating without any rise is really a hard task for me. I can not image that British eat bread as their main food in daily life but maybe bread in UK is just like rise in China and People like it. People told me that British pay less attention to food and they prefer fast food rather than spending much time on cooking. I do not know why maybe they want to save time to do jobs or other things. But I know that British like fish and chips because I saw may “fish&chips” in the street. (A traditional and classical food)

British like running. I can see many people running in the street everyday. They always dress sport clothes and running with an MP3. This is not usual in China and Chinese people just like running in a sporting place or a park in the morning. Another interesting thing is that British people like running in where they like. A friend I know that he like running beside a lake where is far from his house and he willing to drive there.

Above all is just a small part of my culture shock.

These days I always saw CCTV on the street and I thought it is China Central Television. It scared me. Finally I understand that it is Closed-circuit-television in UK. -.- #

finished block one

With the end of Friday we finished block one of our pre-session course.

In the past one month I learned many skills of English learning especially in writing academic essay for instance the basic structure of an essay, academic words, how to paraphrasing or summarizing and so on and so forth. We also learned some knowledge of marketing which more relate to our main course.

The most thing I worried about is my presentation. I did not do well in the first time and I still had no progress in the second time it made me felt very sad. Maybe I need more practice of my presentation by myself and Alen told me that practice in front of mirror is a good way to prepare a presentation. I will try.

The most difficult is express. I can say a long sentence if give me enough time but once I stand in front of many people I can not express and what I can remember is just a few words instead of sentences. I think it is not just because nervous the majority reason is the way of thinking. Because when I want to say something I always think in Chinese and then translate it into English. But in most cases I have no time to think like communicating with people or doing presentation without enough prepare. It troubled me very much and I want to know how to change my way of thinking.

I hope it will get better in block two and can make a progress in next following days with hard work.

GLOBALIZATION

According to a survey, globalization has become one of the most controversial topics in the past 10 years. In Europe and North America there are a large amount of books use globalization as a subject and it also become a cause of major demonstrations. Some people think that this kind of globalization leads to many problems and disrupt their lives with no benefits while others argued that poverty achieved reduced significantly in some countries such as China, Vietnam, India and Uganda. It is surprising that though globalization was been widely used it still have not be defined consistently. Indeed the breadth of meanings attached to it seems to be increasing rather than narrowing over time, taking on cultural, political and other connotations in addition to the economic. Nevertheless, the most important aspect of economic globalization as this paper enphasis on is the observation that in these years global economic activity rising dramatically but seems to be happening between people who live in different countries rather than in the same country. This growth in cross-border economic activities takes various forms:

Advertisement can promote economic through variety kind of ways to instill the minds of people with consumptive ideal. Most people will be moved and will have the desire to buy products which appeared in advertisement. This kind of desire just like people shopping in the supermarket, they maybe just want to buy some discount goods originally but when they saw so many kinds of products in the supermarket with large amount of advertisement they bought more over except at last.

On the other hand, advertisement sent the sense and information of products which people are not familiar with and also provide popular element to people every quarter of a year. It public the fashion dress, declare the newest style of cars, furniture even the hottest rote of travel.

To sum up, it will no consumptive society without advertisement and the speed of spreading fashion can not be so fast without the impulse of advertisement. So advertisement is needed and Indispensable.

lovely town

Today I went to a small town named egham and we call it “slow town” after the visit. People live here all looks comfortable. They walk slowly work slowly and speak slowly like everything will be ok and what you should do is just to enjoy every day in your life. People sit and take a cup of coffee then talk and laugh this is a lifestyle I dreamed.

Sometimes we also need to relax ourselves and slow down our steps to have a rest.

A lovely town ! I like it

DREAM

I borrowed a book about how to write an essay this afternoon. Until now I still have the question like before I come to London: how can I to write a paper, I even can not write sentence in academic words.

This week we have more work to do and I felt obviously that this week our course tend more academic and more relevant to our main course. Many article need to be read again and again then I can understand. The more I read the more problem I found, there just little academic words I know and used to use in writing.

How perfect if I can memory all the words in one day!

FINISH

We finished presentation this Friday and through this subject I found that thinking considerate is very important. In the process of doing this presentation our group always have many ideas and we all want to add these idea into the product and try to make it more rich. The result is that we add too many ideas and we can not find the main point. FUN is the member of us and I found she is more considerate than us. She always thought many problems we have not met and when we made a decision she always want to know why. Why this way can not be available? Why the product need to be modified? With these questions we can process our subject more reasonable.

It is very helpful for me because that I am a girl do not like to ask questions even I do not know very clearly. I always think that it will be clear one day and most time I will ignore the problem it is really a bad habit. Maybe I should to learn how to ask questions on and with more “why” when I think.

I like our product very much though there are still many problems we did not solved. Anyway, it is ours.
